Most people forget the importance of hearing unless they face some hearing problem. An audiologist is a person who helps people who have hearing problem by providing them non-medical treatment to deal with the problem. Audiologists help the patients by assessing their hearing problem and recommending them the right treatment. They also provide services to people who are at the risk of hearing loss because of noise population or exposure to certain drugs.

Most audiologists work with a team of psychologist, pathologist, social workers, physicians, occupational therapist, nurses and physical therapist to provide the best treatment possible to people who suffering from hearing problems. The team can assist the audiologist in assessment of the problem and suggest the right hearing devices that can help the patient deal with their hearing problem.

To diagnose the hearing problem in patients, an audiologist may be required to conduct several tests. They may use several equipments and physical tests to find out the cause of problem. These tests are usually conducted in special rooms that are designed to get accurate results. To find out the cause of the problem, the audiologist may have to inspect the patient’s eardrum and remove earwax. They may also conduct a neuro-physiological test to measure the nerve impulses in the patient’s brain. This test is usually conducted to identify the cause and the location of the problem.

Once the cause of the problem is identified, the audiologist will suggest treatment methods to deal with the problem. In cases where the hearing problem cannot be treated, the audiologist may teach patients how to read lips and sign language which will help them cope with their social settings and work. They can also suggest ways of reducing the impact of noise pollution on people’s hearing.

The salary of audiologist will vary depending on their education and experience. The entry level average salary of an audiologist is about $35,000. People who have a few years of experience in this field can earn is about $50,000 to $55,000 per annum. The maximum salary that an audiologist can earn is about $85,000.

To be audiologist, you must have good interpersonal and communication skills. They must also be sensitive to the needs of the patient and must have the skills to identify the cause of the problem. Since most audiologist work with a team, they must be able to work in a team environment without any problem.

To become an audiologist, you need a bachelor’s degree in communication disorder, linguistic, audiology or any other related field. After completing your bachelor’s degree, you have to get a master’s degree in audiology that will require you to work as an intern at a medical facility. Some employers may also require you to get a certificate from a recognized institute before they offer you a job.
